WAY TO WALK, WEATHERFORD!

IT'S FREE!

Yes, the Walking for Wellness Program is free for everybody! But the program doesn't walk by itself. It needs your support. Donations, including in-kind gifts, are greatly appreciated. Contact the W'ford Parks & Recreation Department or any of the committee members (found on the Contact Us page) to make a tax-deductible donation or to provide in-kind gifts to the walking program. Donations will be used to help encourage people to be active and exercise as well as educate them about health issues so they can live longer, happier lives. Volunteer committee members organize the free Walking for Wellness Program. Fundraisers and donations pay for incentive prizes, motivational education expenses and promotional costs of the program. To support the future of the Walking for Wellness Program, please contact us today.

VOLUNTEER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

The Walking for Wellness Program is still going strong...and continuing to make a difference in Weatherford, Oklahoma. The 1st year of the program started September, 2007.

As a volunteer-driven program, the committee members are extremely vital to the success of the walking program. And as the program grows, so does the need for more volunteers. There is no doubt that the walking program is growing; so yes, we need more volunteers...we need YOU!
Please give consideration to being a volunteer for the Walking for Wellness Program. If interested, please email walkinginfo@swosu.edu. What could be more fitting than to volunteer for a community-wide program that includes fun, friends and fitness?!

WALKING RESOURCES

April 7 is the American Heart Association’s National Start! Walking Day. For more information, visit their website (www.startwalkingnow.org). They have great tips and advice throughout the year.

Tip: If you want a workout you’re practically guaranteed to stick with, choose this one: walking. Walking has the highest compliance rate of any exercise. But you’ll need to take the right number of steps each day to reap the maximum health benefits. What’s the magic number? When you’ve taken at least 10,000 steps today -- a pedometer can help you keep count (available for free at the Weatherford Parks & Recreation Department) – you’ll have walked the optimal amount for good health. To read the rest of this tip and find out how it affects your RealAge, go to www.realage.com/tips/all-about-you-a-hard-to-quit-workout. Thanks Suzy M. for sharing this tip with us. If you have a walking tip or walking resource suggestion to share, send to walkinginfo@swosu.edu.

Walking is one of the easiest ways to get the exercise you need to stay healthy. Experts recommend at least 2.5 hours of moderate activity, such as walking, a week. Read more at
