 Blue Envelope Program

The Blue Envelope Program is a localized communication support tool used during law enforcement interactions to help individuals who may have communication, sensory, or cognitive challenges.

The envelope typically contains the driver’s documents (driver’s license, insurance, etc.), a brief explanation that the individual may need additional time or accommodations, and guidance for officers on how to reduce stress and improve communication during the encounter.

The program is set to help the following individuals:

  • People who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • People who have difficulty speaking clearly
  • People who are learning English
  • People with autism, ADHD, or other neurodevelopmental conditions
  • People who experience anxiety, PTSD or other mental health conditions
  • People who have dementia, cognitive or neurological impairments
  • People who experience involuntary movements, such as those associated with Tourette Syndrome
  • People who have medical-related speech difficulties
  • People who are blind or have low vision

The goal of the Blue Envelope Program is to reduce misunderstandings, anxiety, and safety risks for both the individual and responding officers.

The envelopes can be picked up at the Weatherford Police Department, Weatherford City Hall, Weatherford Chamber of Commerce, Pioneer Senior Center, Southwestern Oklahoma State University Campus Police Department, and the Great Plains YMCA Weatherford.

Medication Lock Boxes and Disposal Kits

The Weatherford Police Department has partnered with the Southwest Oklahoma Development Authority to provide Weatherford residents with a free medication lock box. This lock box is designed to securely store medications and help prevent access by young children. The Remedy Guard includes two keys, two medication disposal kits, and an informational brochure with helpful contact numbers and available support services.

Gun Locks

The Weatherford Police Department provides one free gun lock per household to residents of Weatherford. If you are unsure how to use the gun lock, an officer is available to demonstrate proper installation and safe storage.

For safety reasons, please leave your firearm secured in your vehicle, and an officer will come to you to assist.
